"Dremel 6300-01 120-Volt Multi-Max" Nice tool for remodeling. I have watched the advertisement on television for the Fein Multimaster but not having deep pockets I decided to purchase the Multi-Max and try it out. I have used it for a number of different jobs and for the most part it did a good job. Here are some of the tasks that it took on.

Cutting holes in drywall: It works great for cutting holes for electrical boxes - the straight blades leave a nice clean hole without a lot of dust. For those times when you need to get access to plumbing to make changes or to repair a pipe it works nicely. In one case I removed the drywall, made the necessary changes then I was able to reuse the drywall to close up the hole.

Making a flush cut in wood siding: I installed new sliding glass doors that opened on a deck. It worked perfectly to cut the siding at the deck plate so I could get the old door out while leaving a clean cut for the new trim.

Removing underlayment (flooring) next to cabinets: The old underlayment was not reusable and I did not want to remove the cabinets so I made a cut in the the underlayment at the cabinets then removed the majority of the underlayment.

Cutting plumbing tubes and pipes: It did a good job on copper pipe buried in the wall and it did ok on plastic drain pipe. It would cut the plastic but it would melt if you didn't move fast enough.

I probably used this tool for 16 hours total over two months and it worked fine. I didn't have problems with the blades coming loose and it never got hot enough to stop because of overheating. The only blade I didn't use very much was the half circle - with drywall it seems to throw a lot of dust.

Could I have done this work with other tools? Almost certainly but it would have taken longer or there would have been a lot more extra work to repair the damage from other tools. The last job I did with it was to add an electrical box inside a cabinet above a stove. I had to cut through 1/4" of plywood and 1/2" of drywall. It was really tight and this little tool allowed me to get inside a make a clean cut that was a perfect fit for the box.

I plan on getting a grout blade next for replacing the grout lines in a tile surface. If I did a lot of remodeling I would purchase the Fein but even so this tooled payed for itself on this one remodeling project.

Today I had a few small projects to do and set out to use vices and hand files. Three hours later I barely made a dent. Dropped everything, went to Home Depot. Bought a Dremel 300 with a 2 year extended warranty, and a few extra pieces. *Should of bought a green grind stone, but there was no hardness rating listed on the packaging.

Went home, read the instructions, and proceeded with my project. Was changing an awl bit from a Leatherman Super Tool 300 over to fit a Leatherman Charge, so my Charge would have an awl too.
Most of the folks over at MultiTool.org have machine shops and lots of room to work with. Myself I live in a trailer new and not much room, and no machine shop - until now.

The supplied grind wheel took ground down the bit, using the other as a stencil while clamped together using a Leatherman Crunch (vice grips). Swapped out for a sander bit to smooth out the bumps and finalize the fitting. Sanded down the surface with 400 grit sandpaper and used the Dremel 300's polishing wheel and compound before final fitting.

Was done in 30 minutes where it would of taken me days using hand files. Then took out a Sawsall, matched it up with a removable lanyard ring, clamped that together with the Crunch. Used the Dremel 300 fiberglass wheel to cut and fine grind the grooves and tabs. Removed the stencil, used the fiberglass wheel on low speed to finish the grooves and tabs, and fitted the saw. Took a whole five minutes to complete this second project.

Now have a portable saw that attaches to my new Leatherman Charge TTi.

Should of gotten a Dremel 300 earlier, would of been done and on to other projects.

I purchased this item a few weeks ago with the purpose of using it for two things, plunge cutting drywall for removal of sections all ready in place instead of using a blade (using the half moon blade for Drywall and wood).

Also removing some grout (1/8 blade, purchased from another source), and in both cases it has worked without issue.

When plunge cutting drywall it actually works quickly and like stated with low dust kick-up, when going down a line it does take about 5 minutes to do a 8ft wall, but doing a outlet box takes just a minute. If have ever used a Roto-Zip it is a dust pig, this is not, but also a Roto-Zip I must say is more powerful and wild at times because it wants to rip through everything.

I do agree with others that the venting on the machine is in a poor location, you do want to hold it at the top for control, instead of the actual hand grip area, but depnding on angle and different attachments this may be a issue no matter where the venting is because of wanting to place your hand for best control at that time.

Overall it does what I wanted it for... low low dust compared to other power tools.

Dremel - Multi-Max. I purchased the Dremel Multi Max from Amazon for $40.00 less than I could get it at Lowe's. I've only used this tool on one project so far, but it worked great. Can't wait to find something else to try it on. Nice case, comes with a couple of blades & sander. Definitely recommended.

I used it to insert an electrical junction box in a wall in a plank frame house. It did an exceptionally good job. I also used the sanding disk to remove varnish from a project that I was working on. It did an excellent job on that also.

It is a very useful tool. I used the metal cutting blade to cut off some nails on a board that I needed to remove. It did a great job on that also. I am very satisified with this tool which is very useful. I would recommend it to anyone that wants a quality tool.

This product is an excellent value. Does exactly what I expected and more. Very happy with the purchase.
